On July 12th 2011, the ciNE65 team was giddy with excitement as we headed down to *Scape for ciNE65’s media launch. Held on the top floor of the building, we were treated to the picturesque view of Singapore’s skyline, which served as an excellent backdrop for the launch of this film competition that aims to embrace everything truly Singaporean.
To elicit this theme, our guests were each given a goodie bag containing things unique to Singapore. Here’s a peek!

We were extremely excited when we spotted Irene Ang and Daniel Yun, our very own home-grown talents, who would be on the panel of judges for the film competition. The easy-going and humorous pair unanimously reiterated their commitment to grooming Singapore’s young media industry and believed ciNE65 to be a useful platform for discovering budding talents in the film industry.
Discussions took place over a scrumptious lunch, which followed the theme closely as well to include true blue Singaporean food across all races and cultures—from our beloved Hainanese Chicken Rice to the delicate Nonya Kueh Pie Tee and of course everyone’s favourite Roti Prata!
Director Nexus, COL Kelvin Koh, started the ball rolling with an opening speech about the purpose and aims of ciNE65. He hopes that the film competition not only acts as a platform for showcasing and discovering talents, but also allows Singaporeans to convey what Singapore means to each and everyone of them.
Irene Ang too recounted her days of growing up in Singapore and feels that everyone who has grown up in Singapore would definitely have a unique experience close to their heart. It is often ineffable and personal, but it is also these different experiences which intersect and intertwine to constitute what we call Singapore.
Indeed, there is not one thing that is simply Singapore. Rather, it is a mosaic of different personalities, cultures and perspectives that make Singapore (and Singaporeans!) what and who we are today. So send us the slice of Singapore that you hold dear to and show everyone what Singapore truly means to you! Check out the participation guidelines!
